He seemed to be saying it limited the range of Sebadoh songs he could play for us... we weren't up close at the time, so we didn't see what strings he was missing. But 4/6, yes...

that's hilarious about a partially strung 12-string guitar. What a guy!gabbagabbaheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07764368059568550318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-58102299572808913022008-05-24T20:15:00.000+01:002008-05-24T20:15:00.000+01:00I saw Sebadoh on the 2007 reunion tour and can tel...I saw Sebadoh on the 2007 reunion tour and can tell you for certain that Lou's early acoustic guitar wasn't a ukelele but an honest to god four-stringed acoustic guitar. He had it on the tour with him and played all of the songs from that era on it, complete with a pickup that had been duct-taped into the soundhole of the guitar and a plug for the pickup that was also held on by duct tape. The whole thing looked like it was gonna fall apart at any second.

Later in the set, when he played some mid-period and later Sebadoh stuff, he an electric guitar that was again only strung with 4 strings, and a 12-string guitar that was only strung with 6 strings: four of the main strings and 2 of the secondary strings. The guy apparently loves to use partially strung guitars.Andrew TSKShttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04102428606697946367noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-64563551279843726082008-05-16T20:42:00.000+01:002008-05-16T20:42:00.000+01:00some talking 'bout drummers (that might go well wi...some talking 'bout drummers (that might go well with your latest post):

"like the complete distillation of thousands of headbanging metal records and some thirty years of speed punk rage, combined into one altogether primal beat"

John Stanier's introductory drum roll for Battles (largely absent from this last gig, though)gabbagabbaheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07764368059568550318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-77255292182592346792008-05-16T20:16:00.000+01:002008-05-16T20:16:00.000+01:00drummer's fate, I suppose! (also, calling yourself just 'murph' isn't a great way to get attention) Though I did like the way his drumkit was fairly far forward on the stage. And yeah, he was beating the hell out of it.

I just saw John Stanier with Battles last night, though. Now there's a drummer worth talking about, definitely.

Good to see you understand the rock show experience; and the difference with Boris in your case. Like for me, the Locust is still the loudest band I've seen but Dinosaur Jr is loudness in the context of more straightforward rock tunes, which makes a big difference.

May is a big month this year for Irish gigs; I was lucky to be finished in college fairly early. This week were the two big acts I want to see; luckily, I don't feel inclined to have to go to one of the National's three dates this week, or Animal Collective next week; but then my musical taste is probably shallow.gabbagabbaheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07764368059568550318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-65296985841692184322008-05-16T19:24:00.000+01:002008-05-16T19:24:00.000+01:00Crumble is an incredible song. But one thing, no one mentions Murph when they talk about Dino Jr.

Sebadoh is awesome. I have liked them for quite some time. Bakesale is my favorite album, though a lot of people pan that one for being too commercial. I just think it has strong songwriting and delivery.

Your gig review reminds me of the times I went to see Built To Spill (who you should go see if you can). A true Rock Show experience. Though the loudest show was easily Boris or Mono. Boris left my ears hurting for 3 days, so I think they win.

Great shows coming up this summer in NYC. Mission of Burma performing Signals, Calls, Marches and Vs. Don Caballero, Maps and Atlases, Dianogah, Devo, Sonic Youth, so much more too...blend77https://www.blogger.com/profile/15363982891479614565noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-59548733194739433912008-05-14T09:41:00.000+01:002008-05-14T09:41:00.000+01:00yeah, 'crumble' and 'almost ready' were released a...yeah, 'crumble' and 'almost ready' were released as a 7" single for the album I think, bummed to miss out on that.

still, the LP I bought on the night has 'I Got Lost' and 'Lightning Bulb' on a separate 7", which kind of makes up for it...gabbagabbaheyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07764368059568550318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-305962566578166600.post-81149812021790680002008-05-14T04:57:00.000+01:002008-05-14T04:57:00.000+01:00thanks for the peel sessions and the 7" rip.also, ...thanks for the peel sessions and the 7" rip.

also, how good is the song crumble from the new dino record? that thing was one of the best records to come out last year.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09127748700681611819noreply@blogger.com
